| So sad...after today, no more MOTO badge...no more @motorola.com e-mail address. I guess that's it, really. Haha.
It
was a really good experience, all in all. I'm glad I got the
chance to work here and make all my friends jealous. Really,
though, there's not much to look back on. I came in, did my
research, gave my presentation, and finished my project.
Everything, for the most part, went smoothly. I'm just anxious to
see what's next...retirement, perhaps?
I feel like I want to
take on Jerome's role of being the go-to guy when it comes to applying
for internships and such. I do know a few of the younger
engineers, and I'm still signed up as a freshmen mentor, so I hope I'll
be of some use. I would have liked to have been an ENG 100 TA,
which is a 6-week course that all freshmen enginerds go through to get
te basics of the college down. Sadly, run-throughs and various
weekend events got in the way of the intensive training process, so I
had to pass. What does kind of frighten me is that the freshmen
mentor program doesn't even have a training session...I don't even
think that they know anything about me. I just signed up through
a simple online form that had my major and year in school. Huh.
But
back to the point at hand...I'm being terminated today.
Unemployed. Kicked out. Yet, $X000 richer, with a
discounted BT headset to boot. Can't complain too much about
that. So bye bye office which is bigger than any of my team
members' cubes, peace out laptop which is more powerful than mine,
later Unix space which I filled with disorganized test files.
This soon-to-be-ex-Motorolan is headed out tonight!

Jason and I discussed, when groups have their members go solo (Justin,
Beyonce), the second stringers don't get enough respect (Kelly,
JC). Nick Carter need not apply.

| Hit up Reserve last night with Mike and Jillian...it was a really nice
place, and I was glad to go out, but I'll be damned if I'm not tired at
work right now. Two hours of sleep isn't really conducive to
productivity. I just want to shut my office door and knock
out...
Also, it should be illegal to put "Open 24 hours" on your
restaurant sign with the words "on weekends" underneath. Not
cool!
However, chorizo sometimes smells like the combined scent of
tocino and longganisa. I thought that was interesting because
anytime my family cooks one, they always cook the other, too. You
know what longganisa is:

Gross!
I mean, I think it's cool that the McDonald's restaurants in the
Philippines serve longganisa for breakfast (at least they did when I
was there eight-ish years ago), but a sandwich? With fries?
No no no...with rice and egg, c'mon now.
Note: The whole value
meal costs 47 pesos, which is about 85 cents American.
I get really
irked by people who say "um" a lot. Just so y'all know.
More of my
annoyance toward people who are hating on videogames follows, skip if
you're tired of it ---------
There are protesters outside Rockstar
games, the people who put out "Grand Theft Auto", and this is part of
their list of demands:
· Volunteer to sell its violent and sexually
explicit games in adult video stores only
· Let parents return Grand
Theft Auto for a full refund until they do a national awareness
campaign to educate parents of content and possible effects
· Create a
fund for victims of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and car-jackings, etc.
· Make a national apology for misleading and lying to children, parents, and legislators about their intentions and causing insurance premiums to sky rocket
·
Give a written response within five business days of receipt of these
demands
Listening to my Orange Lounge Radio podcast, one of the hosts
brought up a good point. Both "Grand Theft Auto" and the game
"Killer 7" have been targeted by these groups. Are people really
buying these games without knowing what at least some of their
content entails? "Grand theft auto" is a term for stealing
cars...it's probably not going to be an appropriate piece of
entertainment for impressionable children. Same for a game which
probably features murderers.
Old people suck. I never want to
become a parent if it will make me suck.
And then there are people who
take advantage of this shit, like this guy
who actually tried to blame GTA as a defense for real life honest to
god MURDER. Of POLICE OFFICERS no less. Thankfully he was
convicted fairly quickly, but of course his family is going to try and
make a quick buck by filing civil suits against the game company and
store. Lame lame lame. It shouldn't be a liability to
develop games! Ahhh that could be my future job! Damn damn
damn damn.
--------- End rant against people who are hating on
videogames
I think I really want to do graduate school now, probably
right after I'm done undergradding. With Steph having already
accepted her offer at Philip Morris to start in January, I got to
thinking...I should really decide on what I want to do next Fall.
Should I even do a job search if I'm going to go back to school?
I mean, that time could be used for a school search, obviously.
It's odd...I've always had college in mind growing up. It was a
given. But I never took into account all the options out there
once I was done with that. What would work terrificly would be if
I graduated, came back to Moto for another summer, did school, traveled
the next summer, get my master's, then work somewhere full-time.
I know people on their third and fourth time at Moto, so it's not
impossible.
Then again, I've also been considering some crazy job
choices. I wouldn't mind being mayor of a small town, for
example, like my electricity teacher was in high school.
Off of that,
I'm surprised at how useful that electricity class actually was to
me. Of course, Keller was a pretty bad at teaching, and he
smelled. Another one of those things that might make me want to
teach some subject related to CompE.
We'll see. I mean, my job
future should be a priority. After all, after tomorrow, I'm going
to be unemployed.
